Afterwards, there is room for discussion with the filmmaker Steffen Keulig, the “jungle child” Sabine Kuegler, a famous writer from Germany as well as with Benny Wenda, the chairman of the Koteka Tribal Assembly and chair of the Free West Papua Campaign UK.
Tue, 07/17/2007 - 03:06 - Only days after the Indonesian Government banned U.S Congressman Eni Faleomavega from visiting West Papua, the Indonesian police, military and local government in Yogyakarta have teamed up with Islamic militias and hardline nationalist groups to crack down on West Papuan activists from United Front of West Papua People Fights [Front PEPERA PB] and also Alliance of Papuan Student [AMP].
How influential is a U.S. congressman that he could disrupt security in Papua or, in an extreme case, lead the province to break away from the republic?
The fear of this, however, seems so prevalent among our top policy makers that the government barred Democratic congressman Eni Faleomavaega from Papua.

The Thais have not responded to our concerns about the Queen taking the land of Hooh Yoh Akha, in more than two years.
The Queen of Thailand in fact has taken the land from adjacent villages including Pah Nmm Akha, in Ampur Mae Faluang, Chiangrai Province and other villages as well.
We need volunteers and lots of help to change this situation.

WRITTEN DECLARATION CALLS FOR INDEPENDENCE REFERENDUM
EURO-MPs are to call for the EU to intervene in forcing Indonesia to respect human rights in West Papua – and grant the province a free and fair referendum on independence – in a Written Declaration launched this Friday (December 1st) to coincide with West Papua Independence Day.
Twenty-seven leaders representing different Factions of the West Papuan Independence Movement have agreed in their meeting held in Yambi, Papua New Guinea on the formation of a national unity and reconciliation body, the West Papuan National Coalition for Liberation. The meeting was held between 28 November and 1st December 2005 and was attended by leaders from 18 resistance organizations including the TPN, the Military Arm of the OPM.
The ambitious DNA profiling "Genographic project" (See.. http://www3.nationalgeographic.com/genographic) which seeks to retrace the path of human settlement on Earth has been encountering resistance among indigenous people. After a boycott-appeal by the US- American Indigenous Peoples Council on Biocolonialism http://www.ipcb.org, now some Maori and African First Nations have also announced concerns over the project .

Today, there are some 2000 Hadzabe (singular : Hadza) living around Lake Eyasi (in Hadza language : Balangida!), which is situated within the great east African rift valley. The Hadzabe speak their own distinct click lout language and are known to be the aborigines on their land. It may well also be assumed that they are the direct descendants of the early humans who lived there some 3 million years ago as bone findings indicate.

OXFORD MP Andrew Smith has met a West Papuan tribal leader who fled torture to highlight the oppression of Papuans by Indonesia. Benny Wenda, 29, was held and tortured in 2002 by Indonesian forces - which are occupying the territory - until he escaped with his wife Maria and two young daughters and fled to England. Since resigning from his Cabinet post as Secretary of State for Work & Pensions earlier this year, Mr Smith has agreed to put his political weight behind the Oxford Papuan Rights Campaign.
Today, Wednesday 24th November, Indonesia hosts its first ever arms fair in Jakarta, with over 250 companies attending [1] including UK-based Rolls Royce [2] and a subsidiary of BAE Systems, Atlas Elektronik [3]. Arms from UK based companies have been used against civilians and insurgents in the conflicts of West Papua and Aceh. John Rumbiak, who is currently a visiting Scholar at Columbia University's Centere for Human Rights Study, brings a clear challenge to New Zealanders to face up to the ongoing crisis in Indonesian controlled West Papua. Mr Rumbiak is West Papua's most influential human rights defender.
